Mr & Mrs Curtis, Hawkhurst, Kent
Here we have a stylish take of a contemporary kitchen that uses a light but bold colour scheme which optimises storage space and make the kitchen the social centre of a home. Looking at the colour scheme it has a great contrast using bold and subtle colours and textures, firstly the choice of royal blue for the units creates a strong base colour then having marble for the worktops which makes defining edge to the units but done using a subtle colour to not draw the attention away from the base colour. The marble splashback means there is additional depth and texture created and compliments the royal blue. This style of island has plenty of seating areas for family and friends to sit and talk around when food is being prepped, this idea also works with the open plan layout as it makes the kitchen feel more inviting for a group of friends. The choice of colour and material does work well with the style of contemporary, having white shaker doors as a base and then to make it personal and different leather has been used for the table. For the appliances the integration of the ovens, microwave and wine coolers means that they all out of the way and ease of access for the user as they are all side by side, except for the wine coolers which are at the back and out the way so the door doesn’t obstruct anything.
